Notion template for creatives, students, writers and freelancers

What is Notion?

Notion is a powerful all-in-one workspace you can use to make notes, track habits, plan, write, collaborate, make a website and so much more. I personally use it for so many things, from keeping overview of everything that needs to be done in the house, keeping track of appointments and managing the work tasks for my virtual assistant.

I’ll admit, I am a bit of an organization nerd. I get really geeky about project planning and visioning. If you haven’t encountered Notion already, it is essentially a free online glorified bullet journal with cool features. What’s ultimately so cool about Notion is that anyone can adapt it to their needs.

My Notion dashboard is not just another note taking app. It is a system that:

  • makes it easy for me to overview and remember my long-term and short-term goals

  • easily switch between big picture visioning and the day-to-day tasks

  • keeps all my business stuff in one place

  • stores all the notes, ideas and useful links in one place so I can easily find them and recall them when I need them

How to get started with Notion?

If you will be using Notion for personal needs, good news! It is free! There are multiple plans available, but if you’re just starting, you can start for free.

Some of great ways you can start using Notion for:

  • tracking habits

  • planning finances

  • journaling

  • writing

  • organizing work into a kanban board

  • planning trips

  • making study notes

  • learning/teaching

and much more! Possibilities are endless.

Notion for creative writers

One of the possible use cases for Notion is to use it for writing. As a writer myself, I know how sometimes it can be difficult to get focus and clarity while staying out of online distractions.

Writing is a process and a journey that consists out of many steps. And switching between different tasks, tools and outlets can be draining and time-consuming.

You can use the existing Notion template and adapt it fully to your needs, whether you need a content creation hub, blogging dashboard, a place to keep notes or ideas, or a place to outline and draft posts.

If you want, you can even turn your Notion into a website/blog, with a customizable URL.

Use Notion for creative writing to:

  • plan and review tasks

  • count word numbers

  • keep drafts and outline posts

  • organize your worldbuilding (i.e. dictionary)

  • keep track of writing submissions

Notion for freelancers

Another great group that can really benefit from using Notion are freelancers. It can work for both sides. Either if you’re a business owner and you’ve hired a freelancer to help you with social media or web design, or you are a freelancer and want an easy way to track all your projects and clients.

That way, you can use Notion to create a separate page for each of your project and share it with specific people that should have access to it. But you will have easy access to everything at a glance. You can also customize each of the project pages to the specific needs of the client.

Why should you use Notion as a freelancer?

  • Keep project separated, grouped by project

  • store all the notes so everyone in the team has access to it

  • tag people and delegate tasks

  • collect all the resources, links and information in a single place, so nothing gets lost

  • automatize process (formulas, charts and more)

Once you get familiar with Notion, you’ll see that the possibilities are endless. You can easily calculate, for example, how many hours you worked on a project. Of course, this is super simple task, but once you get familiar with formulas, you will achieve so much more in less time.

Notion for students

Students can use Notion to make notes, organize projects, track expenses, keep a wishlist, track daily/weekly habits and much more! And the best thing is that the Notion Personal plan is free for students and educators - including unlimited storage, unlimited uploads, version history, advanced permissions, and more!

How amazing is that?

So many students completely switched to Notion for their class planning and note-taking, and no wonder why, when you can:

  • keep all your notes neatly in one place

  • store a ton of information

  • easily share and collaborate on projects

  • use templates to save time

  • organize everything

  • personalize it to your needs

Boy, I wish there was Notion when I was in the University 😅

One example how effectively you can use Notion for University are masterlist. By creating masterlists, you will keep track of each book you’ve read, each task/deadline you need to meet or every idea that comes to your mind.

Image interlinking - but for everything you can imagine. And the possibilities are endless.
